For the longest time, I avoided considering phalaenopsis orchids to add to my collection. Most of the first orchids I attempted to grow were phals, and they didn't make it. They all suffered the same fate: losing all their roots to rot because the places I'd gotten them from had no experience in growing orchids and had overwatered them. I did pick up a few phalaenopsis seedlings a several years ago, and they all ended up flowering for me eventually (See seedling #1, #2, and #3). With new confidence, I decided to try a quality hybrid.
This Phalaenopsis (Taisuco Snow x Koala Moon) x Phal. Sideline 'June Moon' came from Hilltop Orchids in Cloverdale, IN. They specialize in growing phals, so I figured I couldn't go wrong getting a nice plant from them. This is the first time this plant has flowered, and it put up five perfect, crystalline 5" flowers. Four of them were open when I got it in March, and they're all still in perfect condition in June.
