These pictures are from the Ken Lockwood Gorge WMA. While I am quite fond of the spectacular scenery and diverse biology (including four different species of orchids), an increase in the available parking has made this place much less pleasant to visit. When I first saw it in 2009, it was a quiet place, with a few fishermen in the river and the occasional hiker. Now it's overrun with people and their barking dogs and doublewide strollers and screaming kids. I would only recommend visiting on a cold, rainy weekday.
Fortunately, the population of Cypripedium parviflorum has remained well-hidden, and is larger this year than it was in the past two. Unfortunately, spring was a little late this year, so there were more buds than flowers!
