These pictures are from the Ken Lockwood Gorge Wildlife Management Area.  I nearly discounted this place due to the fact that the hike was along a road down by the Raritan River, with a return trip along the Columbia Trail, the gravel bed of an old railroad.  The place is popular, and I could see why; it was a gorgeous ravine with the south branch of the Raritan River running through it.  Fortunately, much of the popularity is with fishermen, who tend to wade in the middle of the river and make very little noise.  And with a little work, we found orchids!
