Raytracing is a method of producing synthetic images using mathematical models for the physical interaction of light with its surroundings.  Raytracing software can produce photorealistic images from a scene description of geometric primitives including boxes, spheres, and the like.  I've been raytracing for about three years now as my schedule and creativity permit.  I use the open-source Persistence of Vision Raytracer, which produces output as good or better than any commercial rendering package available, some of which cost kilobucks.  Two of my images I submitted to the Internet Raytracing Competition, where they fared quite well.  A nice summary of those results can be found on my IRTC page, from the unofficial IRTC Statistics site.

I made this image for a friend of mine for her birthday.  The rose model is sadly not mine, but is freely available from Robin Wood.

The Lair of the Demilich

This image was my first entry in the Internet Raytracing Competition.  It placed 11/41 in the topic 'Mythology'.  You can also read the image description that I wrote for the contest round, and download the source code (ZIP file format, 70 KB).

Enter If You Dare

I used this image for the splash screen of my old web page.  It's got some ideas that would carry over into my first entry in the IRTC.

Another early image; dark, moody, and wanting for details.

Waiting for Midnight

This was the first image that I completed; it's a little dark and a little sparsely populated, but everyone has to start someplace, right?
